mEL to Take Time Off in 2026, Putting Mental Health First

2026.04.26 FeaturesNewsUpdates

In an emotional and deeply personal statement, Melanie “meL” Capone of Shopify Rebellion has announced she will be stepping away from professional competition in VALORANT for the remainder of 2026 to focus on her health.

Effective immediately, she will take a break from pro play, clarifying that this is not a retirement nor an indefinite hiatus. Instead, her goal is to return refreshed and ready to compete in 2027.

She recently received a diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), following a prolonged period of mental health struggles dating back to mid-2025. Despite committing to therapy and maintaining what she described as a “healthy lifestyle,” she found her condition persisted. The disconnect between outward stability and internal distress became increasingly difficult to manage.

Mel spoke about the toll this has taken, including ongoing battles with motivation, emotional fatigue, and suicidal ideation. She emphasized how much effort it required to continue competing and maintaining a positive outward presence while struggling internally.

It’s never easy to step away, but this is the kind of decision that shows real strength.

Wishing Mel all the best during this time rest, healing, and clarity. Here’s to a strong, healthy comeback in 2027. 💙
